Picking an idea amongst a game group can be tricky. It can be especially tricky if members have different interests, different skill levels, and can have a stubborn personality. This was definitely the case for our team. It was definitely not a “walk in the park”.

After creating 3 very simple prototypes, our team decided to go with the 2nd game we worked on – Rouge-Lite. This game was my second choice, however working on a team is filled with compromise, therefore I knew even if it wasn’t my #1 choice game, I could still have some of my ideas in my 2nd choice game.

Our team chose this game for one main reason – it gave challenges to all majors on the team. For a Capstone project, no one wants to work on a game that doesn’t challenge them and/or doesn’t show their potential skill level. With our concept ideas for Rouge-Lite, as well as the early prototype, this allowed for our team team understand quickly which game would be the best game to choose for everyone on our team.

The concept for Rouge-Lite changed at least 5 or 6 times before we settled and agreed upon one direction we wanted to go with. As someone who wasn’t on our team, I believe they also would have chosen this game out of our 3 other ideas not only because it challenged all team members, but also because it was a concept that was more in depth than our other 2 game ideas. This idea was worth pursuing due to the fact that the concept is more unique compared to other games within the industry. It has a sense of light-heartedness, with battling aspects, all targeted around the concept that makeup is what gives people in this fictional world power.

This game contributes not only another light-hearted concept to the world, but also the message not to take makeup super seriously. Makeup in the real world adds standards in which people are viewed unrealistically, as well as based upon outward appearances. With our game, we take the idea of makeup and add a touch of humor to it in order to show that makeup, or outward appearances, aren’t something that should be considered of utmost importance.

Since this game is created for young adults, this concept plays well into that target market. Young adults are one of the largest age groups to buy makeup. Since makeup has so many trending aspects to it, the makeup world only gets larger, therefore the concept of makeup within our game will be easily distinguished, however, it will show a light-heartedness to it as well.
